GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley for Obama? (For an Instant)

A day after Vice President Joe Biden was glad to be in Iowa, aka Ohio, Iowa's Republican U.S. Senator accidentally "endorses" President Obama.

Among the politicians standing Friday with Mitt Romney in Ames, were Rep. Steve King, who recently linked immigrants to dogs, and Sen. Chuck Grassley, who once called President Obama "stupid."

As they each approached the microphone to speak to a couple of thousand people, who might regret their words first?

The "winner" on this day, if only for a moment, was Grassley.

“We will put America on a new path to a new day with a new President Obama,” Grassley intoned.

Oops.

Grassley caught himself.

“A new president Obama?" he asked nobody in particular. "Pardon me I want to forget that word.”

Things must be getting tiring on the campaign trail. On Thursday, Vice President Joe Biden called out Romney to Iowa voters.

“I mean literally, ladies and gentlemen, this is the guy who’s running all the ads here in Iowa saying he’s going to get tough on China,” Biden said.

Only problem: Biden was in Ohio.

Little slip-ups like this often get mis-quoted, almost like the title of this blog article. I am sure "Chuck" is NOT for Obama.

Much ado about nothing...consider the blatant lying by obama regarding the fiasco in Benghazi, refusing to come to the aid of American diplomats under fire. Inexcusable and then to repeat numerous times a phony story about some video getting the kooks over there all excited. There is your story Patch, why don't you write about something meaningful!

Tired of the whole Benghazi thing and excuses for Bush's failure to keep our nation safe. President Obama has a slew of staff who are SUPPOSE to keep him aprised! He stated in the 2nd Debate, although, Hillary Clinton took the blame, that HE WAS COMMANDER IN CHIEF and he accepts ALL responsibility. He went on to explain he would not stop until he found out who and why the ball was dropped. And to make a statement in the Rose Garden "act of terror" doesn't not have the same meaning "act of terrorism". Look it up in the dictionary, terror relates to any situation where someone is threatened and endangered.

Mitt does nothing but lie. He is for something when talking to one group and against it talking to another. Oh, and Benghazi? well the presedent and the cia still isn't sure who did it. Four different groups claim they are responsible. Don't blame the president for not jumping the gun and giving the wrong group credit, like Mitt the mouth did.

Remember what happened in April 1983?, when a van loaded with a bomb exploded in front of the U.S. Embassy and killed 46, including 16 Americans.

. You Neo-cons keep bashing Obama for the Embassy but, have you forgotten what happened in Beirut on Oct. 23rd, 1983?
A van loaded with explosives killed 241 service members, including 220 Marines in their barracks — the Corps' bloodiest day since Iwo Jima. It would drive the U.S. out of Lebanon and lead people, including al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden, to conclude that when America gets its nose bloodied, it pulls back.
The blast lifted the building as much as a foot off the ground. Then the floors pancaked down, killing many of those inside.
The truck shattered the Marines' building with a bomb more powerful than 12,000 pounds of TNT — the biggest non-nuclear explosion since World War II. The van passed between two sentry posts. Not even one Marine got off a single shot at the van, ........why?, because their guns were ordered not to be loaded. hummmm? Our President at the time said and I quote " the United States would never back down from terrorists " unquote.
And what did our fearless leader do to bring these Terrorist to justice that killed our Embassy members and our Marines?, 2 months latter he withdrew the Marines from Lebanon.
Who is this mystery man of who I speak? our 40th President, Ronald Wilson Reagan.

@gail: time to get a better dictionary. in google distionary, 'terror' has more than one sense:

ter·ror Noun /ˈterər/
1. Extreme fear
- people fled in terror
- a terror of darkness
2. The use of such fear to intimidate people, esp. for political reasons
- weapons of terror
3. A person or thing that causes extreme fear
- his unyielding scowl became the terror of the Chicago mob
4. The period of the French Revolution between mid 1793 and July 1794 when the ruling Jacobin faction, dominated by Robespierre, ruthlessly executed anyone considered a threat to their regime
5. A person, esp. a child, who causes trouble or annoyance
- placid and obedient in their parents' presence, but holy terrors when left alone

the prez used sense #2.

terrorism consists of acts of terror. if he had said 'act of terrorism' as you suggest, he would have been saying 'act of acts of terror'. why would he want to say something so redundant?

And, now Mitt wants to lower taxes on the wealthy. Give me a break!

I wonder what the mindless liberal bloggers have to say today in the wake of the Des Moines Register's endorsement of Romney for President. Afterall, the Register has supported every socialist since LBJ. I was truly shocked by the Register, I did not think they actually had the intellectual capacity to analyse obama's failed reign. I'm not at all surprised by the Register's endorsement (they are owned by Gannett, you know), nor am I surprised at the Gazette's endorsement. Newspapers are not in the business of reporting "news" anymore. They are purely business entities concerned with gaining profit through advertising dollars. I should know...I worked at various newspapers throughout my 30-year career.

While I am glad to see the endorsement, I have to say the media today absolutely can't be trusted. You can get anything in the world printed as long as you have enough to pay for it. The media really needs to be overhauled with a little tact and truth and stop letting the all mighty dallar speak.

We'd get a "twofer," two presidents for the price of one. Or would the First Gentleman get a salary for being First Gentleman? Sally Mason's husband gets paid for being a lecturer at the U of I, which is fine, but he also gets paid for "fundraising," although the female spouses of Iowa's two other public universities do not.
