Marion Eyeing $50K in 'Assault Rifles' for Police Officers

Marion City Council meets at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Marion city leaders are considering nearly $50,000 worth of assault rifles for 25 police officers.

This is on a tentative agenda for the next City Council meeting, which is on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at City Hall.

The official agenda item is to authorize "the city to purchase and payroll deduct the cost of an on-duty assault rifle for 25 officers in the amount of $1,987.00 each for a total of $49,675.00."
