Update: Fatal Car Crash Closes Portion of Mt. Vernon Road SE
A 45-year-old man died in the crash this afternoon. The road is closed so seek an alternate route if you plan to travel on Mt. Vernon Road SE near the 2400 block.

Authorities are now confirming that a 45-year-old man perished in a car crash that occurred in the 2400 block of Mt. Vernon Road SE today at 1:22 p.m.

The identity of the man has not been released, but he died at the scene, according to a news release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
Cedar Rapids Police are investigating the crash, which involved a grain truck and two vehicles, according to the news release. The man who died was in one of the two vehicles.

The identities of the drivers and the particulars of the crash will not be released until Tuesday at noon, pending notification, according to the news release. Police have not said if anyone else was injured in the crash.
That portion of the road is closed, and may reopen around 5 p.m., according to the news release.
