Kelley McLaren died last year after a car crash. The Dance New York instructor in Marion will be honored with a swing dance contest during a competition in Coralville this month.
A Marion woman who died in a fatal car crash last fall is being remembered through a swing dance competition put on by former co-workers at a local dance studio. Kelley McLaren was an instructor at Dance New York when a teen, who has been charged with two felony counts of vehicular manslaughter, was driving the wrong way on I-380 and struck her vehicle last November. McLaren loved to dance, particularly swing dance, and her friends and students thought a contest would be a good way to keep her memory alive. "Kelley was a huge part of the Dance New York family and she is greatly missed every day," said Beth Henderson of Dance New York. "We want to do whatever we can to keep her memory alive. Lady Antebellum is performing on June 1, on the heels of the release of their fourth latest album Golden. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on March 8.
Grammy Award winning country music act Lady Antebellum will preform at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids in June. Lady Antebellum is a trio known for hit songs including Need You Now, Just a Kiss, Wanted You More, and I Run To You. The band's latest album Golden is due out on May 7. They will perform on June 1. With the Oscars tonight, we thought it would be fun to ponder whether we may have anyone here in Marion who could leave their mark on the film landscape. The first person to come to mind is Sam Fathallah, a 17-year-old from Marion. Sam is only a junior at Linn-Mar, but he has an expanding resume of projects, which includes a second place finish in an Iowa Renewable Fuels Association contest for his video titled "What is Biodiesel?"
