Report: 2 Marion Businesses Named to Top 25 List of Fast Growing Companies

LimoLink and Coffeesmiths, both of Marion, are among the Corridors fastest growing businesses.

  The Corridor Business Journal took a look at percentage business growth between 2010 and 2012 among businesses in the Corridor, and came up with a list of the 25 fastest growing.  Two Marion companies earned as spot on that list. LimoLink Inc., a company that offers chauffeured executive travel, had 87.9 percent growth, which placed it at No. 13, and Coffeesmiths, a gourmet retail coffee company, had 75.6 percent growth and came in at No. 19, according to the CBJ. Tops on the list? Lattice Communications Inc., a stocking dealer of new and refurbished telecommunications equipment in Fairfax, had 325.2 percent growth.  Read more about the list from CBJ, here.

New Pioneer Co-Op is considering opening a new location, and Marion, Cedar Rapids, North Liberty and Iowa City are under consideration.

  Marion residents spoke up quickly when news spread that Iowa City's iconic New Pioneer Co-Op was considering opening a location in our fair town. New Pioneer offers a wide selection of natural foods, with an emphasis on organics and locally grown, as well as meats, cheeses, wines and deli service. With the choice and variety of summer camps available in 2013, boredom won't be an option. Organizations from area colleges to your local parks and recreation department offer dozens of camp choices for science, nature, sports, music and more. Whether you're looking for an all-around experience or a more focused camp, this list features a few in your town and nearby. MAP: It's Patio Season, Where Can You Sit Outside With a Beer or Cocktail in Iowa?

The patio season is here, and there are more than 3,000 places in Iowa that allow adult beverages outdoors. Search the map to plan your next happy hour, bike ride stop or night on the town.

  Who hasn't been waiting all winter to kickback on a patio for happy hour cocktails with a group of friends after work, take a break from a long bike ride with an icy cold beer or enjoy a glass of wine with you significant other at the end of the week? Marion has 23 businesses that serve alcohol outdoors, such as Cibo Fusion or Villas Patio, and Linn County has another 138. Iowa as whole has more than 3,000 permits for alcohol outdoors, according to the Iowa Alcoholic Beverage Division. Information from the ABD was used to create the searchable map above. Future is Bright in Marion: Promo Video Wins Excellence Award

"This is Marion, Iowa" won the Award of Excellence in three categories from the Iowa Motion Picture Association.

  Funky shops, good food, good people, safe community, opportunities to build and grow.  A new promotional video helps capture what Marion has to offer. That video - "This is Marion, Iowa" - won the Award of Excellence in three categories from the Iowa Motion Picture Association.  "The video was given the top award in the categories of Corporate and Community Marketing, Graphic Art Direction and Editing - Short Form," said MEDCO president George Lake in an email.  The Marion Chamber and Marion Economic Development Company (MEDCO) partnered with MVP Video Productions to create the video, which is intended a recruitment tool for businesses and employees.

Would You Support Iowa City's Natural Food Co-Op in Marion?

New Pioneer Co-Op leaders are looking for a third location in Marion, Cedar Rapids and North Liberty, and calls finding a site to relocate downtown "remote at best."

  Supporters of downtown Iowa City's iconic but floody weary natural food cooperative are reassessing options for where to build, and that may not include the downtown area its called home for 43 years.  Marion is in the mix.  Leadership of the New Pioneer Co-Op have been looking for a new location, but were left out of a preferred plot a few blocks away in favor of a high rise with a movie theater and bowling alley. The current downtown building at 22 S. Van Buren St. is said to be under-sized and susceptible to flooding. The Co-Op has its sites on opening a third location - it's been in Coralville for 12 years - in possibly North Liberty, Marion, Cedar Rapids or elsewhere in Iowa City.
