Last Chance to Swing at Sunset: Five Things About This Week in Marion

ALSO: City Council meets, ice cream fundraiser for Granger House, Marion Farmers Market in full swing, and puppets explain blood.

Here are five things to watch out for, learn about, or do for fun this week in Marion.

1. Last Marion Big Band "Swingin' at Sunset" Event

Big band fan?

Thursday the 25th will be the last time this summer you can go and enjoy big band music for free in Uptown Marion as part of the "Swingin' at Sunset" events. Starts at 7 p.m. in City Square Park

2. Marion Farmers Market

It's a great time of the year for buying produce from the farmers market, and Marion has plenty of opportunities for you to come out and buy from local growers.

Wednesday... 3:00-6:00 p.m.
Saturday... 8:00-11:30 a.m.

3. Annual Ice Cream Social Fundraiser at Granger House

Eat ice cream while raising money for the historic Granger House. Enough said.

July 28th, 2013 from 1:00pm to 3:30pm

Annual Ice Cream Social Fundraiser. $7 for adults, $5 for kids 6-18, Kids 5 and under are free. Bring the family and come out for ice cream, cake and pie. See the amazing balloon creations by Papa Balloon and enjoy musical entertainment by the Marion Big Band, as well as a tour of the Granger House and the carriage house.

4. Marion Library: If You've Ever Wanted to Watch Puppets Explain How Blood Works, this Your Chance

Tue. Jul. 23, 1:30pm - 2:00pm via the Marion Public Library

Children - Puppet Shows “Charlie’s Heroes” & “Bobby’s Gift of Life” Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center

Puppets Curtis and Maria introduce kids to Charlie Corpuscle - the colorful puppet star  - and his friends Whitey White Cell, Paula Platelet, and Penelope Plasma, as they journey through the human body explaining how blood works. 

5. Marion City Council Meeting

A bundle of land rezonings, the potential approval of another phase in Lowe Park's development, and the setting of a public hearing for a potential key deal with a zipper manufacturer.
