According to the Weather Channel, each day this weekend has a high of 45 degrees. While that's not necessarily summer weather, compared to the inevitable, upcoming freezing temperatures and wind chills, this weekend might be the last gasp of decent weather. Fire up the grill, take a stroll to the park, read outside on your porch. All you'll need is a sweater.

2. Girls Varsity Basketball, Jan 6, 7:30 p.m.

The Linn-Mar Lions will be playing the Xavier High School Saints at a home game at the . The girls' basketball team is currently rated 24 in the state of Iowa.

3. Collaboration: Work by Student Artists at Mount Mercy University and Cornell College, Jan 7.

The Marion Arts Council will be showing off the work of various art students throughout the Cedar Rapids metropolitan area. The gallery will be up at through February 18.

4. Heat It Up Teen Winter Reading, Jan. 7, 2-3 p.m.   

The is turning Japanese. Teens of all ages can come to the library to watch Japanese anime cartoons, as well as check out the latest additions of magna — Japanese comic books — to the Marion Public Library.

5. Sunday Family Movie: Kung Fu Panda 2, Jan. 8, 2:15-3:45 p.m.

The is holding a free showing of Kung Fo Panda 2 this Sunday, as a part of their Sunday Family Movie series. Yes, there may be lots of panda-on-animal Kung Fu action, but it is safe for the kids, rated PG.
