Crime Victims Race in Marion Cancelled Due to Flooding

7th Annual Go the Distance for Crime Victims 5k Run/Walk on April 20 Cancelled

MARION, Iowa—The 7th Annual “Go the Distance for Crime Victims” 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 20, has been cancelled due to flooding at Thomas Park in Marion.  Those who have already registered can pick up their t-shirt and race bag at the Cedar Rapids Police Department (505 First Street SW Cedar Rapids) Friday, April 19, from 4-6 pm or at the Linn County Attorney’s Office, beginning Monday April 22nd between the hours of 8 am – 4:30 pm.  Race officials got word from the City of Marion about the Park being closed due to flooding and immediately tried finding alternate routes, but it was not possible due to other parks being closed (due to flooding) and other pre-planned events in Marion.

Members of the Linn County criminal justice community were planning this event in conjunction with National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (April 21-27).  Registered participants are asked take time this week to walk or run and remember not only the crime victims in Boston, but all victims of crime.

 The Go the Distance for Crime Victims 5K Run/Walk has formed a promotional partnership with the Marion Rotary for an exciting weekend of road races in Marion, including a Marathon and Half Marathon held Sunday, April 22.  Those races are still being held and the community is encouraged to cheer along the race route.  

Due to this event being a fundraiser, there are no refunds.  Proceeds from the 2013 Go the Distance for Crime Victims 5K Run/Walk will continue to directly benefit victims of crime in Eastern Iowa.
