How Successful Was Marion-Cedar Rapids Areas First-Ever Marathon? Results This Week


Organizers of the Marion Rotary Marathon for Shoes plan to announce the financial results of Marion-Cedar Rapids area's first marathon on Wednesday.

As part of the announcement, they will also reveal the dates for the second installment of the marathon, which is fun and a fundraiser for Shoes for Kids charity, Marion Cares and other Marion-East Cedar Rapids Rotary programs.

This year's marathon was held on April 20-21 and included a 26.2 mile marathon, Marathon Relay, UICCU Half Marathon, Go the Distance for Crime Victims 5k, Community Bike Ride, The MAC Health & Fitness Expo, and Marion Cares Pasta Dinner.

954 people participated in the marathon and UICCU Half Marathon representing 22 states, Canada, and the UK.

Justin Gillette, 30, of Goshen, IN, was the top overall finisher in the full marathon with a time of 2:36:16.94.

Chase Dudak, 25, of Marion, was the top local runner. He came in with a time of 3:15:18.27, which was good enough for 10th place.

Donna Weeda, 34, of Bettendorf, finished with the top time among women at 03:23:15.49.

Megan Andresen, 37, of Marion, was the top local female finishers. She had a time of 3:55:31.36.
