Top 10 Marion Facebook Pages to Follow

If you live in or near Marion, and you want to keep up on what's going on in town, then you should consider giving these Facebook Pages a Like.

I'm still learning the social media landscape of Marion, but here are a few pages that seemingly have jumped out at me even in my short time of covering the town that would be good for people to follow if they want to keep up on events. Let me know if I've missed any good ones (I'm sure I have) in the comments below, and I'll happily add them to the list.

Of course I'd also appreciate it if you gave Marion Patch's Facebook Page a Like if you haven't already. I've almost caught us up to Johnston so Marion won't be the page with the least Facebook likes in Iowa Patch. C'mon guys, we must catch Johnston! Down with Johnston Patch! Then Ames and Urbandale will be the next cities in our sights.

1. Linn-Mar Community Schools

Linn-Mar has one of the most active Facebook accounts of any school district I have covered in the area. If you want to know what's happening at Linn-Mar, including when there are police on campus, apparently, the Linn-Mar Facebook page is a good one to follow.

Meanwhile, Marion Independent needs to pick up the pace, at least when it comes to posting on Facebook.

2. Uptown Marion

Ever since I've visited it, Marion has always stood out for having a nice, welcoming entrance area to its city. Now with the recent Blue Zones and Mainstreet Iowa designations, things may become even more interesting in Uptown, and this is the Facebook page to follow if you're wanting to keep up to date on its progress, or on the goings on in Uptown in general.

3. Marion Maid-Rite

Marion Maid-Rite, I'm including you in this list. But please change your intense cover photo! Too much meat zoom ahhhhh!

4. KCRG-TV9 First Alert Weather

Not just a Marion specific site, of course, but they're useful for when you're just getting up in the morning and want to know what the weather is going to be like. Plus they have such pretty graphics. Ooo, pretty graphics.

If you're not a KCRG fan, sub in a favorite local news provided of your choice. KGAN is after all, rather close, and The Gazette still covers Marion... every once in a while.

5. Marion Public Library

The Marion Public Library is not only the unofficial official newsroom of Marion Patch, it also has a pretty active Facebook page, featuring photos from the week's activities. A must if you are a fan of cute kid photos.

6. Marion Times

They have begun posting more as of late, and they are the paper of record for this town so why not give them a follow. Plus, it'll be a good way to improve your vocabulary.

7. Urban Vintage Hair Studio

Do you like haircuts? Do you like pictures of hair being cut? How about photos of hair after it has finished being cut? How about photos with hair in it that has nothing to do with hair cuts? Urban Vintage has all of these and more.

Give them a follow. And better yet, get your hair cut there. I did and was pleased with the results.

8. City of Marion

Keep up to date with the latest city news by following the City of Marion on Facebook. They're slowly growing their Like base up to the magical 500 Likes line. I'm also told if they reach 100,000 Likes by the beginning of the next fiscal year nobody in Marion has to pay their property taxes this year.

OK, so I made that last part up. But still give them a follow to stay informed.

9. Marion Hy-Vee

I discovered the Marion Hy-Vee Facebook page after writing about its wonderful parody of Gangnam Style. Besides having superb musical stylings, the Marion Hy-Vee Facebook page has among the most followers of any page I could find in Marion, and is a good place to get info on recent deals and new items at the store.

10. Annual Marion Police 5K 4 K9 Run/Walk

Everyone like's dogs, right? Well I'm not sure if everyone loves police dogs, especially the people they are chasing, but I would say that in general people to seem to mostly like the idea of police dogs.

Plus, if you're going to be chased by a police dog at some point, why not train by doing a 5K? You see, now I've figured out a way to keep everyone happy.

This is an annual event to help maintain funding for the Marion Police's K9 unit. Keep abreast of when and where it will be run by following this fine Facebook page.
