Weird Iowa Rewind: Couple Throws Blows After 'Jerry Springer Show;' Pot and Pills Found After Nap at Family Video

And, a weird mystery still surrounds the resigning-unresigning-resigning again superintendent.

Patch Editor Brian Morelli compiled last Saturday's Weird Iowa, a collection of weird news from Iowa's 9 Patch.com sites. Here's what you might have missed on March 30.

Oh Jerry Springer, how did I know one day you'd wind up in our Weird Iowa series.

Fights are standard fair among guests on "The Jerry Springer Show," a TV talk show where guests work out their personal problems for the world to see. Well, it appears some of that spilled out of the TV in West Des Moines.

An argument that started over an episode of “The Jerry Springer Show” ended when a woman reportedly chased her alleged abuser out of her apartment with a knife, leaving a trail of blood behind and causing him to run away and hide in another unit, according to police.

Next up, let's go with political weirdness.

In Cedar Falls, the weird story of the day is a flap between the school board and the first-year (and final-year) superintendent. The weirdness started a month ago when the superintendent Mike Wells announced he was resigning and then the same day unresigned because he felt he had the support of the school board.

Two days later he resigned again after the school board made it clear they weren't renewing his one-year contract.

New records clear some things up but then add more mystery to the equation at the same time. For example, emails obtained in a records request show that Wells' standing was in doubt months ago, so why the last minute scramble?

Back west to Ames and back to the criminal weirdness.

A man was charged with public intoxication and drug possession after he was discovered passed out in the game room of Family Video. Police say they found marijuana and pills on the napping man.

Finally, this isn't a weird selection because of its very serious subject matter. This next story is weird because of the unusual nature of the legal process.

This week the former Madison County prosecutor pleaded guilty to charges of assault against his girlfriend. The case was unusual because although police responded the night of the incident and the woman wound up in the hospital, police waited seven months to file criminal charges. Anthony Zane Blessum will spend six days in jail.
