Marion Weather Alert: Flash Flood Warning Issued:

Heavy rainfall has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood warning for parts of several counties including Linn.

The warning is in effect until 1:30 p.m.

According to the NWS, "major flash flooding" is developing, particularly along Highway 30. Cedar County is experiencing widespread flash flooding, according to NWS. 

The Doppler Radar indicates we've been drenched in 2 to 4 inches of rain, and the forecast calls for more thunderstorms throughout the day with another 1 to 3 inches possible. 

Residents are urged to avoid low lying areas. 

Here's the forecast for the next few cycles from NWS:

  • Today: Showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 83. Southwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
  • Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 8pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
