A lot of times clients have trouble remembering what county office
does what. It’s easy to understand as
most of the time you’re only dealing with an office once in a blue moon. Here is a little rundown of some of duties. A Realtor will help you on when these offices
come in play when transferring real estate.
Recorder’s Office: Documents deeds, mortgages, contracts,
leases, plats and surveys, easements, bills of sale, and more.
Assessor’s Office: Keep records of homestead and Veteran
exemptions, as well as gathers information on properties, square footage, etc.

Clerk of Court: Records documents from the court system,
judgments, court costs, etc.
Treasurer’s Office: Collects taxes.

Auditor’s Office: In charge of county building codes, voter’s
registration, and absentee ballots.
Building and Zoning: Enforces ordinances, flood plain maps.
Health Department: Provides radon self-test kits (can only
test with a self-test if you own the property), performs perk tests for septic
systems, conduct water tests, inspect food and lodging facilities.
