Five Things to Do in Marion: Magic Book Clubs and Listening Dogs

Who said there's nothing to do in Marion?

1. Magic Tree House Book Club

This Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., the will be hosting the Magic Tree House Book Club. The book club is discussing the Magic Tree House book series written by Mary Pope Osborne. Tuesday's discussion goes over the first book in the series, Dinosaurs Before Dark. 

2. Master Gardening

Becky Lynch will be giving a presentation titled, "Continuous Color for Your Garden," this Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Marion Public Library. The program will help listeners produce a more colorful garden. Treats will be provided by Friends of the Park.

3. Free Latin Dancing Lessons

are holding free Latin dancing lessons this Wednesday from 7:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. The lessons are for both beginners and advanced dancers. The bar will be hosting a DJ at 8:30 p.m., who will be playing a wide variety of Latin dance hits.

4. Reading Assistance Dogs

The reading assistance dogs will be returning to the Marion Public Library this Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Reading assistance dogs are canines specially trained to patiently sit by children as they read. This is supposed to make reading less intimidating for children. Check out of this event when it first came to the library.

5. Dennis McMurrin & the Demolition Band

The will be hosting the Dennis McMurrin & the Demolition Band, a blues group from Iowa City. Cover is $5 and the doors open at 6 p.m. Cheese plates, wine and beer are available as well. To hear some tunes from the band, click here to get to their MySpace page.
