Will Gas Prices in Marion Continue to Rise Throughout March?

A spike in oil prices means residents of Marion are now paying around $3.50 per gallon, but will March be a month of declining or increasing prices?

Call of hands, who here likes paying more for gas?

No one. That’s what I thought.

Bad news for drivers, commuters or travelers of any kind absent pedestrians. Gas prices for super-unleaded have reached around $3.50 in Marion and they’ll be steadily rising through the month.

The Des Moines Register reported that gas prices in Iowa are expected to reach $3.70 by the end of March, "if not sooner."

But how bad is that?

According to the Associated Press, the gas spike is so serious it has put the gas tax soon up for debate in the legislature on shaky ground.

"I acknowledge it was a tough sell. It’s always going to be a tough sell, but when gas prices go up it makes it just that much tougher," said Iowa State Senator Tom Rielly from Oskaloosa, leader of the Iowa State Senate transportation committee, in the story.

There's no doubt that it doesn't matter what's in the bill, asking us to pay more money for buying something we hate buying is indeed a tough sell.

But looking beyond this month's increase, when prices may reach $4.00, even gasoline is going to be a tough sell.
