Bond Set at $125,000 for Des Moines Man Charged in Shooting Near Kirkwood Campus

The Des Moines man is accused of attempted murder among other charges in last week shooting in Cedar Rapids.

The bond has been set at $125,000 for the Des Moines man charged in the largely for student housing near a community college campus in Cedar Rapids.

Teran Huff, 25, of 1710 Oakland Road No. 5 in Des Moines, has been formally  in connection with Friday's shooting in the Kirkwood Court apartment complex near Kirkwood Community College.

He was seen in court on Tuesday from a video camera inside the Linn County jail where he apparently cried during the appearance, according to a report by the Gazette.

The Sixth Judicial District Associate Judge Jane Spande set Huff’s cash-only bond at $125,000. The bond was set to such a large amount because of Huff's past run-ins with the law, according to the Gazette. He's been convicted for possession of controlled substance, in addition to two escape convictions.

The Des Moines man turned himself in for the shooting on Monday and is facing five charges: first-degree robbery, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of willful injury causing serious injury.

Police have yet to determine the cause of the shooting, according to the Gazette.

The three victims of the shooting are Shannon Gaskins, 21, Alexander White, 22, both from Cedar Rapids, and Raymond Sellers, 24, of Chicago. All three were in critical condition. Gaskins and White are expected to live, while there has not been an update on the Sellers.

Huff faces charges for the shooting of Gaskins and White. Police said Sellers was part of the same incident, but the Gazette is reporting that Sellers is not named in the criminal complaint against Huff.

According to a release from Cedar Rapids police, they responded to the scene of the shooting at 311 Kirkwood Court SW to find Gaskins and White with gunshot wounds to the torso. They were sent to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

The third victim, Sellers, was dropped off to the Mercy Hospital emergency room just after police arrived on the scene of the shooting.
