Man Identified in Fatal Crash on Mount Vernon Road

Authorities say John Alderhof, 45, of Cedar Rapids, was killed in a car wreck on Monday on Mount Vernon Road SE.

Authorities have a identified the man who passed in a fatal crash on Monday afternoon.

Cedar Rapids police say John Aldershof, 45, of Cedar Rapids, died at the scene of a collision between two vehicles and a grain truck around the 2400 block of Mt. Vernon Road SE on Monday at 1:20 pm.

John Aldershof/45, of Cedar Rapids, was in his2004 Chevrolet and was eastbound in the outside lane on Mt. Vernon Rd SE. He had just passed Adam Gorsh/26 of Palo, who was in his 2004 Ford pickup and was also eastbound on Mt. Vernon Rd SE. Aldershof then pulled into the inside lane and crossed the center lane into the westbound traffic.  Aldershof then hit Mark Vislisel/48 of Mt. Vernon, IA, who was in his 1984 Ford grain truck and was westbound on Mt. Vernon Rd. The Vislisel vehicle pushed the Aldershof vehicle into the Gorsh vehicle. The Aldershof and Vislisel vehicles continued into yards on the south side of Mt. Vernon Rd SE.

Aldershof was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation will continue. No one else was injured.
