Marion Man Sentenced For Bringing Friend Heroin at Drug Treatment Center

James Sullivan has been sentenced to more than two years in prison.

A Marion man has been sentenced to more than two years in prison for bringing heroin to a friend at a drug treatment facility in Cedar Rapids.

That friend had overdosed on heroin three days prior.

A federal judge sentenced James Sullivan, 30, last week. Sullivan pleaded guilty in May to distributing heroin within 1,000 feet of a school. He was sentenced in the U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids.

Sullivan's friend overdosed from heroin on Dec. 7, 2011, which landed him in the facility, according to KCRG. Three days later, Sullivan apparently supplied him with two syringes of heroin. He faced one to 40 years in prison.

He had also been convicted in the past of drunken driving, fifth-degree theft, and charged with fourth-degree theft for an incident at the Marion Walmart.
