Marion Police Sergeant Found Guilty of Defying DNR Officers

The sergeant was facing charges stemming from an incident back in August.

Marion Police Sergeant Phillip Fort has been convicted of interference with official acts after he came into conflict with Iowa Department of Natural Resources officers back in August.

Fort was allegedly stopped by the Iowa DNR while boating at the reservoir for making waves inside no-wake boundaries. Instead of complying with officials who repeatedly requested he stay still, Fort drove the boat back to his dock.

He was charged with interference with official acts and operation in violation of buoys. Fort pleaded not guilty. According to the Gazette, Fort was tried in front of a jury last Tuesday in a Johnson County Courtroom and found guilty of the crime.
