UPDATE: Linn County Attorney Drops Case Against Linn-Mar Student Charged With Threatening School Shooting

A 16-year-old Linn-Mar High School student, who threatened via Twitter to commit a school shooting has had charges against her dropped by the Linn County Attorney's office.

A female Linn-Mar High School student was  last week with first degree harassment.

According to Marion Police Chief Harry Daugherty, the 16-year old had sent a Twitter message to another girl at school threatening to commit a school shooting.

When Marion Police spoke with her, she admitted to sending the message, but said she had no plans whatsoever to follow through with her threat.

Daugherty said he had just been informed that the charges against he girl had been dropped by the Linn County Attorney's office. In his estimation, he thought this was due to the possibility that there was not any evidence supporting the idea that she would actually follow through with her threat.

"It was probably never going to happen," he said. "The chances of her doing that was low, but we still have to do our job."

The Linn County Attorney's office did not immediately respond to an inquiry. It is Marion Patch's policy to not name minors charged with crimes.
