Shannon Cardinal, the 43-year-old Wisconsin teacher charged with having a sexual relationship with a Marion teen, will face no charges in the state of Iowa.

A Wisconsin woman accused of having a sexual relationship with a former student, who now lives in Marion, will not face charges in Iowa, police say.

Shannon Cardinal, 43, is facing up to , who is now 17. The alleged encounters mainly occurred at Cardinal's residence in Wisconsin, but at least one allegedly occurred in Marion.

Despite this, Marion Police Chief Harry Daugherty said the Mayville (WI) High School teacher, who has been placed on administrative leave, will not be charged in Iowa.

"We are not considering charging her, Ms. Cardinal, with anything," he said.

Daugherty said they made the decision not to file charges because the teen is 17-years-old, which is over Iowa's age of sexual consent. Also, the alleged sexual encounter in Iowa did not take place when Cardinal was the boy's teacher, Daugherty said.
