Gazette Endorses Six Incumbents on Marion Ballots

The Cedar Rapids Gazette Editorial Board recently endorsed four incumbent legislators in Marion districts, in addition to currently seated county officers.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette Editorial Board has endorsed six elected officials whose names will grace Marion area ballots Nov. 6 — all incumbents

The Gazette has endorsed U.S. Congressional District 1 representative Bruce Braley, Iowa State Senate District 34 candidate Liz Mathis, Iowa House representatives Kraig Paulsen and Nick Wagner, in addition to Linn County Supervisor Ben Rogers and Linn County Auditor Joel Miller.

The endorsements don't seem to fall on party lines. Three of the candidates — Mathis, Miller and Rogers are Democrats, while the rest are Republicans.

That leaves out some fairly high profile challengers like Braley's Republican counterpart Ben Lange and Wagner's challenger Daniel Lundby, son of deceased Iowa State legislator Mary Lundby.

The board did buck that trend with the endorsement of a national political challenger: Mitt Romney.
