How to Help Marion Become a Main Street Iowa Community

Marion narrowly lost this year's Main Street Iowa designation, but the Marion Chamber of Commerce is already hard at work to win this year.

Marion lost this year's Main Street Iowa designation because representatives for the organization told Marion's participants that the city was lacking community support.

If you remember the  program helps a given city by giving them resources and access to experts and grants in order to preserve and grow the city's historic main street area. The Main Street Iowa Foundation was founded by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Jill Ackerman, the president Marion's Chamber of Commerce, was part of the delegation that presented in front of the foundation's judges in Des Moines. She said she's determined to make it happen next year, but needs a little help.

She's asking residents to print off and send letters of support to the Main Street Iowa Board or by pledging to donate or to volunteer should Marion receive the designation.
