Linn County Democrat Swati Dandekar Enters into the Fray for Braley's Seat

Dandekar is a former State Senator representing the Marion district.

After a short period of testing the waters, Marion Democrat Swati Dandekar is ready to jump into the pool.

Yesterday Dandekar announced that she would be officially running to replace Bruce Braley in the first U.S. Congressional District of Iowa as Braley departs to vie for the soon to be vacant U.S. Senate seat of Senator Tom Harkin.

For Democrat Swati Dandekar, her Iowa First District campaign is about jobs and the economy, education and the American Dream.

Dandekar, a former state lawmaker and recently resigned from the Iowa Utilities Board, said Iowans she talked to while making up her mind to enter the race to succeed Waterloo Democrat Rep. Bruce Braley were excited and encouraged by her focus on jobs and education.

“They liked what I was saying about jobs that pay living wages so families can thrive — not just survive, but thrive,” Dandekar said July 23 after formally entering what is now a five-way primary for the Democratic nomination in the 20-county northeast Iowa congressional district.
