ICYMI: Marion Resident Voted Into Key Leadership Role for Iowa Education

The top official for the Linn-Mar school district was selected to serve in a leadership role on Iowa's volunteer board that governs public higher education.

Linn-Mar Superintendent Katie Mulholland, of Marion, was unanimously voted in by peers to serve as president pro tem of the nine-member Iowa Board of Regents earlier this month. The regents oversee University of Iowa, Iowa State University, University of Northern Iowa, Iowa School of the Deaf and the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School.

The leadership term runs through April 2014.

Mulholland, a Democrat, was appointed as a regent by Gov. Terry Branstad in 2011. During her time as a regent, she served on the search committee that found UNI's new president, William N. Ruud, and led a key review process that led to the closure of several academic programs at a cash strapped-UNI.

Mulholland has been Linn-Mar's superintendent since 2003 after holding leadership positions for school districts in Naperville, IL; Dubuque, IA; and Ottumwa, IA.
