Lowe Park Amphitheater Construction Could Start Soon

The bidding date for the project is July 31, and construction could begin Aug. 24.

The first steps for a proposed amphitheater and art walk in in Marion could get started as early as next month.

The proposed amphitheater would be located directly north of the existing art and environmental center and function as a beautiful community gathering place.

"The amphitheater itself will be unique," said Mike Bell, of RDG Planning and Design. "It will be really different than anything in the metro area or really anything in the state. The difference is in having the structure be more artful than architectural."

Bell said the first phase in the project involves developing infrastructure that can support the amphitheater area. The project being proposed right now involves grading, some utilities and pathways to the proposed location of the amphitheater.

The infrastructure is up for bid right now, and the bid date is July 31. If all goes well, construction could start Aug. 24 and last for about 48 business days.

Bell said he wasn't sure how long it could be before the second phase, the construction of the amphitheater, begins. He said the city is pursuing external funding sources for the project before they move forward.
