Branstad Nominates Nick Wagner for Spot on Utilities Board

Terry Branstad selected Wagner to serve on the board, which works with rates and services for utilities in Iowa. The Iowa Legislature will need to approve his nomination.

Nick Wagner, a former Marion lawmaker fresh off a close election loss in November, could have his next step lined up.

Wagner, 39, a Republican from Marion, was nominated by Gov. Terry Branstad to the Iowa Utilities Board.

“Overall, Iowa is doing a pretty good job,” Wagner told the Gazette. “It’s not that any one source is more import than others. We need a good balance to keep the reliability and cost down.”

The Gazette reports the Utilities Board is a full-time position has a pay range of $84,240 to $128,290 per year.

The IUB is a fact-finding body that hears evidence in cases filed before it and makes decisions based on the evidence presented in those cases. An advocate of neither the public nor the utilities, the IUB is required by state statute to make decisions that balance the interests of all parties to ensure the utilities provide adequate and reliable service at reasonable prices.

Elizabeth Jacobs is chairperson of the board. A second member, Swati Dandekar, is also from Marion. Darrell Hanson is coming off the board.
