Senator Liz Mathis Officially Files for District 34
Democrat Mathis will go up against Marion businesswoman Randi Shannon for a Seat in the Senate.
State Senator Liz Mathis from Cedar Rapids has officially filed for re-election in the new District seat 34.
Sen. Mathis, Dem, defeated Republican business woman Cindy Golding in a special election November, 2011, after Gov. Terry Branstad appointed Democrat Swati Dandekar to the Iowa Utilities Board.

Mathis, 54, announced in February she would run for Senate District 34, which, after redistricting from the 2010 Census, includes most of her current district 18: Marion, Robins, Hiawatha and several northeastern Cedar Rapids precincts. The new district 34 also includes the towns of Ely and Bertram, as well as several eastern Cedar Rapids precincts.
Mathis will run against Republican Randi Shannon, a businesswoman who lives in Marion and filed to run Tuesday. Goldings has not announced if she will run again.

Mathis oversees legislative advocacy, public relations, marketing and development as Chief Information Officer at a child welfare and juvenile justice agency, Four Oaks, and its affiliates, the Affordable Housing Network and Iowa KidsNet. She is also an Ohnward Bank Board Director with branches in Marion and Cedar Rapids and sits on the Wartburg College Board of Regents.
Mathis was a news anchor, reporter and producer at KCRG-TV from 1998 to 2007.
