United Way Picks Up Slack from Budget Cuts; Funds 5 Marion Area Human Services Agencies

Five local human service agencies have been given $335,012 in "emergency funding" from United Way of East Central Iowa.

United Way of East Central Iowa has donated $335,012 to five local human services agencies.

Each program — all of which are available to Marion residents — have been subject to budget cuts. 

The money will help cover the cost of running the Area Substance Abuse Council, the Neighborhood Transportation Service, the Abbe Center for Community Health, Foundation 2 and Horizons.

"We released this emergency funding to help agencies bridge a gap in funding this year," said Leslie Wright, United Way’s Vice President of Community Building, in a release. "As a condition to receive this one-time emergency grant agencies had to present a plan for funding for these critical services once these funds are depleted."

Each agency are centered in Cedar Rapids, but United Way of East Central Iowa's VP of Communications Christoph Trappe said they are available to Marion residents as well.
