Marion Native, College Basketball Star Has Foot Surgery

A college basketball player and former Linn-Mar Lion standout recently had foot surgery for a problem that arose during high school.

Kiah Stokes, the University of Connecticut women’s basketball center and former Linn-Mar Lion, recently had surgery to repair a torn tendon in her right foot.

She has apparently been dealing with the issue that lead to the surgery since she was playing at , but the injury became a serious issue during the NCAA tournament, where the University of Connecticut lost the semi-final match against Notre Dame, according to the Associated Press.

Despite the injury and the surgery, a UConn spokesperson said to the Associated Press that she can return to playing well before the beginning of the next season.

When she was playing at Linn-Mar, Stokes averaged 25.0 points, 14.8 rebounds and 5.1 blocks per game. At UConn, she averaged 4.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

She was also honored as Iowa's 2010 Gatorade State Player of the year.
