Overtime Field Goal Propels Linn-Mar Lions to First Win of Season

Linn-Mar junior Austin Wolter scored the winning field goal in an overtime match with Washington High School.

The Linn-Mar football team had their first win of the season against the very team that began its four-game losing streak.

The Lions beat Washington 24-21, after four consecutive losses, the first of which being Washington's victory over Linn-Mar in the 4A playoffs last season, according to the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

"Everybody knows we've got a little bit of bad blood with Washington with that postseason loss last year," said quarterback Rhys Davis to Metro Sports Report. "I think we all had a personal score to settle."

Junior Austin Wolter scored the winning field goal in a heated overtime, despite limping off the field after a player's helmet collided with his shin in the first quarter.

Watch the full game above, from a recorded broadcast by Linn-Mar TV.

Stay tuned next week to find out if the Lions keep up the good play in Friday's home game against Cedar Falls.

What are the best "green" solutions for weed control?
Willie Wellington April 18, 2013 at 02:08 am
Hi Beth. My name is Willie Wellington and I own/operate Insite Lawn Care and Landscaping. We haveRead More used green products for over seven years now and recommend these solutions for you. The best 'green' solutions are using corn gluten as a preemergent right now. As for post-emergent control - look for a horticultural grade vinegar (10-20% acetic acid) and apply it on a warm sunny day. It is nonselective - meaning it will kill or damage anything that you spray it on. You can also find some people using a product called the Green Guardian. It is an all natural post-emergent and fertilizer. Please remember that natural products take longer than chemical products but can produce better results in the long run while also being better for the environment.
