Should Wrestling Be Dropped from the Olympic Games?

Plans to drop wrestling from Olympic competition in 2020 could be felt here in Marion.

The IOC voted to drop wrestling from the programming from the 2020 Olympic Games, a move which allows the addition of another sport.

Iowa's passion for the sport is no more obvious than here in Marion, which is home to Iowa's No. 4 ranked wrestling program, Linn-Mar Lions. One of the top wrestlers in the country, Matt McDonough, who now wrestles for University of Iowa, is from Marion.

Dan Gable, perhaps the sports best known ambassador, and Cael Sanderson, among others have vowed to fight back. A final vote on which sport to drop will be held in September.
