Kids Hit Summer Boredom? 7 Low Cost Things to Do in Marion

Here's some suggestions of low cost things to do with kiddos of different ages this summer.

1. Teen Summer Reading Program at Marion Library: It's not too late! Summer Reading lasts through July 27 >> Go Beneath the Surface this summer with the teen reading program! We'll peek under superhero masks, dig up secrets, and dive into the sea. And who are you Beneath the Surface? Express yourself with art programs and get dirty planting a terrarium. At the end of the summer, we'll have a Masquerade Lock-in with costumes, food, games, and Grand Prize drawings. The teen summer reading program is for young adults going into 5th - 12th grades.

2. Swimming: Check out the Thomas Park Splash Pad or Marion Pool.

3. Enjoy the Parks and Trails: Marion has several parks and natural trails to enjoy, including Boyson Park and Trail and Donnelly Park.

4. Community Events: City Square Park also hosts several family friendly community events, including the Marion Farmers Market on Wednesdays from 3-6 and Saturdays from 8-11:30 a.m., the last Marion By Moonlight tonight, and Uptown Marion Market on July 13 and Aug. 10 from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

5. Disc Golf at the 18-hole Legion Disc Golf Course.

6. Indoor Fun: Cool off inside with other parents and kids at the Lindale Mall play area or Marion Public Library's Toddler Time (Tuesdays and Fridays from 10-10:20 a.m.) and Story Time (Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:45-11:15 a.m.)

7. Arts and Crafts: What list would be complete without arts and crafts ideas. From dried pasta arts to cardboard box mansions (ask your local grocery store for leftover boxes), here's a link to hundreds of craft ideas for kids
