Watch This: 'Why We Create Here?' A Video to Promote the Creative Corridor

The Technology Corridor spanning Interstate 380 and anchored by Iowa City and Cedar Rapids has been rebranded the Creative Corridor. Here's a video about why.

Remember the Technology Corridor? You may not have realized it, but since February of 2012 you've been living in the Creative Corridor, as the powers that be behind the campaign decided it would better describe the opportunities afforded by the metro areas of Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. There was a recent re-re launch of this campaign to spread the word anew about this rebranding effort. You can see more about that at the Creative Corridor Facebook page or here: The Creative Corridor Project aims to highlight the innovation and collaboration in the region Part of that event was the video attached above, produced by Bocce Ball Studios Corridor about what makes it a Creative Corridor.  What do you think of the brand name? Does it make any …

Watch Liveblog Replay: Iowa Men's Basketball Loses Yet Another Close One, This Time to Wisconsin in 2OT

If Iowa wanted to keep its flagging NCAA tournament hopes alive, a win Wednesday at Wisconsin surely would have helped. Sadly it was not to be as Iowa fell 74-70 in double overtime.

First Lady Michelle Obama Urges Supporters to Work Hard Over Next 8 Days at Iowa City Rally

About 500 enthusiastic supporters gathered to cheer First Lady Michelle Obama in the Sheraton Hotel Ballroom.

Michelle Obama clearly has some fans in Iowa City. As she was rounding up her speech, a man in the audience felt inspired enough to shout out a question as she was speaking Monday afternoon in front of an enthusiastic crowd of about 500 supporters at the Sheraton Hotel Ball Room. "Michelle, will you marry me?" "Sorry," the first lady replied with a smile. "I'm already taken." She did, however, share some love right back to Iowa City. Noting that it was in this city and this state where their ascendancy to the White House began, and that it was emotional to come full circle. "I'm not going to cry right here in front of all these cameras, but just let me tell you, we love you so much." The First Lady spent a little over a half an hour on …

'We Will Win Iowa' President Obama Tells Iowa City Crowd

Fresh off the Democratic National Convention, President and Michelle Obama, and the Bidens traveled to Iowa City on Friday.

President Barack Obama laid out his plans for a second term during a stop Friday afternoon at the University of Iowa in a speech that lifted many of the talking points from Thursday night's acceptance address at the Democratic National Convention. If re-elected, the president said his goals include: creating one million manufacturing jobs; reducing the deficit by $4 trillion, and encouraging the development of cars that go twice as far on a gallon of gas. "You'll save money, and it's good for the environment," he told the supportive crowd in Iowa City during the speech, which lasted about 30 minutes. The president, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, spoke outdoors on the UI Pentacrest lawn -- …

Obamas and Bidens Plan Presidential Visit to Iowa City on Friday

There is no word yet on the location for President Barack Obama's second visit to Iowa City this year.

Iowa continues to benefit from being one of the true swing states left in what could be a very close election. The Obama campaign has confirmed that this Friday, following the Democratic National Convention, President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and Dr. Jill Biden will all be in Iowa City for a campaign event. This will follow a trip by all four to New Hampshire. No word yet on where the event will be and when. As this Press-Citizen article notes, however, the visit by the president's entourage will also compete with what is looking to be a very busy Friday and following weekend in the Iowa City area. This will be Obama's eighth trip to Iowa this year. Just last week he made stops in Ames and …

With Jake Varner Gold Medal at London 2012, Iowa Adds Another Wrestler to Rich Olympic Legacy

ISU wrestler and coach Cael Sanderson show that Iowa still holds sway.

The Olympic Wrestling Trials started in Iowa City this year, and with the state's rich history as a wrestling hotbed, it's not surprising that there would be Iowa ties for the winner of Olympic gold. Yesterday, Jake Varner, a Bakersfield, CA, native and former Iowa State wrestler, defeated Valerie Andriitsev of Ukraine 1-0, 1-0 to win gold in men's 96-kilogram freestyle. Varner's win gave the United States a rare second gold in Olympic wrestling in an olympic games. Watching nearby was Cael Sanderson, himself an Olympic gold winner, who had a dominant career at Iowa State and recently coached Penn State University to another National Title, edging out such perennial favorites as the University of Iowa and Oklahoma State, much to the …

London 2012 Track and Field Schedule: Lolo Jones and Other Athletes with Iowa Ties

The Olympics in London are well under way and there are some athletes with Iowa ties still alive. Here is a schedule if you want to watch Lolo Jones, Diane Nukuri-Johnson, Kineke Alexander.

The Olympics has been a mixed bag for Iowan competitors so far. Gabby Douglas, who has lived and trained in West Des Moines the last two years, recently secured a gold with the United States gymnastics team. She is prepared to compete for individual gold on Thursday. Two University of Iowa Hawkeye swimmers -- Heather Arseth, a current swimmer, and Dragos Agache, an alumni -- failed to medal after swimming for their respective countries. Another former Hawkeye swimmer who later transfered to the University of Florida, won a gold medal along with Michael Phelps and other teammates on the 4X200-meter relay. But what remains beyond that is the track and field events:

Missing Teen: Iowa City Police Department Seeks Public Help in Search

The Iowa City Police have put out a call for those who can provide information for a teen that has been missing since he didn't make a bus transfer in mid July.

The Iowa City Police Department is asking for public assistance in helping to locate a teenage boy who has been missing since July 16. Police are looking for Donald Marshall, 16, who now lives in Alabama but was recently in Iowa City attending camp and visiting relatives, according to a press release from the Iowa City police department. According to the release, family members took Marshall to a Greyhound Bus terminal on July 16, and he was scheduled to arrive in Alabama on the morning of July 17. He, however, never arrived and apparently did not make a scheduled transfer in Davenport on July 16. Family reported Marshall missing to the police on July 18.
