Marion Man Charged With Speeding, OWI and Carrying Weapons

Matthew John Birmingham was arrested at the corner of Marion Boulevard and Tama Street in Marion.

Marion Police arrested resident Matthew John Birmingham for driving while intoxicated/drugged — his second offense — speeding and carrying weapons. He was charged at the corner of Marion Boulevard and Tama Street Oct. 5 at 12:05 p.m. Carrying weapons is an aggravated misdemeanor.

16-Year-Old Arrested at 5 a.m. -- Yes, 5 a.m. -- for Attempted Burglary, Public Intoxication

A 16-year-old Marion teenage male was charged with two counts of third-degree attempted burglary and one public consumption/intoxication charge.

A 16-year-old local boy was charged by Marion Police for two counts of third-degree attempted burglary and a public consumption/intoxication charge. He was arrested at 1245 Country Club Road at 5:06 a.m. Sept. 29. Justin Jeremy Strauser, a 23-year-old from Marion,  was arrested at the same time, for the same incident, according to police records. Marion Patch does not release the names of minors charged with crimes. Third-degree burglary is a serious misdemeanor.

Marion Man Charged with Attempted Burglary, Public Intoxication, Outside His Home

A Marion man was arrested for public intoxication and attempted burglary outside his home. Justin Jeremy Strauser was charged with third-degree attempted burglary and public intoxication/consumption. Strauser, of 2365 Crestwood Lane, was charged at 5:06 p.m on Sept. 29 outside the same address. Third-degree attempted burglary is a serious misdemeanor. Marion Police also made the following arrests between Sept. 27 and Oct. 3: Dakota Wayne Candler, 22, Cedar Rapids, was charged Sept. 27 with fifth-degree criminal mischief, at 288 Wroble Drive. Marion Man Charged with Felony Burglary

Thomas Ray Carlson, 28, was charged with third-degree burglary and possession of burglar's tools at his residence.

A Marion man was arrested on two burglary-related charges late last month. Thomas Ray Carlson, 28, was charged on Sept. 28 with third-degree burglary and possession of burglar’s tools at 409 Ben-Dov Drive in Marion, which is listed as his residence. The arrest took place at 10:30 p.m. Third-degree burglary is a Class D felony, and possession of burglar's tools is an aggravated misdemeanor. That address, 409 Ben-Dov Drive, has also been connected to other charges in the past year. Trashon Jermaine Thompson, 20, has been listed in the Marion police blotter twice in the past year as living at 409 Ben-Dov Drive. Marion Man Accused of Videotaping Woman in 'State of Partial or Full Nudity' in Bar Restroom

The Linn County Sheriff's Department has arrested Richard Allen Wessels, 58, of Marion, for invasion of privacy stemming from an incident at The Rut Bar in Cedar Rapids.

Marion resident Richard Allen Wessels, 58, was arrested by Linn County Sheriff's deputies for allegedly recording a woman in the women's bathroom at The Rut Bar in Cedar Rapids. Wessels is listed as the owner of The Rut Bar, 6935 Mount Vernon Road, according to these minutes of a Linn County Board of Supervisors meeting. Linn County Sheriff's Office officials said Wessels had videotaped at least one woman "in a state of partial or full nudity without her knowledge or consent," according to a news release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office. The victim, who has not been named, is the only known victim, according to authorities. Deputies arrested Wessels on Wednesday, but the alleged crime took place over a year ago, in April 2011.
