Marion Man Charged with Intent to Cause Sexual Abuse, Child Endangerment

The following information was provided by the Marion Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Benjamin Allan Etzel, of Marion, was charged by Marion Police with child endangerment and assault with the intent to cause sexual abuse. Law enforcement arrested Etzel close to noon on Sept. 17 at his residence on 18th Avenue. Police records show that no injuries were connected to the assault/sexual abuse charge. The relationship between Etzel and the victim, among other details of the case, are not yet known. Assault with the intent to cause sexual abuse that does not cause injury is an aggravated misdemeanor.

Wisconsin Teacher Accused of Sex with Marion Teen Faces No Charges in Iowa

Shannon Cardinal, the 43-year-old Wisconsin teacher charged with having a sexual relationship with a Marion teen, will face no charges in the state of Iowa.

A Wisconsin woman accused of having a sexual relationship with a former student, who now lives in Marion, will not face charges in Iowa, police say. Shannon Cardinal, 43, is facing up to 186 years in prison for allegedly having sex with the boy, who is now 17. The alleged encounters mainly occurred at Cardinal's residence in Wisconsin, but at least one allegedly occurred in Marion. Despite this, Marion Police Chief Harry Daugherty said the Mayville (WI) High School teacher, who has been placed on administrative leave, will not be charged in Iowa. Wisconsin Teacher May Serve 186 Years for Alleged Sexual Relationship With Marion Teen

In an unfolding case out of Mayville, WI, 43-year-old teacher Shannon Cardinal faces multiple charges related to an alleged sexual relationship with a minor from Marion.

Wisconsin teacher Shannon Cardinal, 43, has been arrested on multiple charges today for an alleged sexual relationship with a 17-year-old Marion boy. She appeared in court for the first time today and was released on a $5,000 bond. If convicted, she faces up to 186 years in prison. The charges include six counts of sexual assault and six counts of child enticement.  The Mayville, WI high school teacher began her alleged relationship with the boy when he was 16, according to a report from Fox 11 in Milwaukee.
