Chief: New Station for Crowded Marion Police Department is 70% Complete

Harry Daugherty discusses the new Marion Police Department.

Marion Police Chief Harry Daugherty said the construction on the new police station is 70 percent complete.

The new station is six times bigger than the current station, which he said leaks at times and isn't enough space for offices to do their work in this fast growing community.

"Right now they are very crowded where they are at," Daugherty said. "We have people on top of people. People are next to people. You can't even interview anybody without the phone ring . This will give the opportunity to interview people interrogate people in a pretty good space without really having to worry about anything."

The chief said the $12 million, 42,000 square foot facility should be done by Nov. 1. It is located off Highway 151.

He said the new building with many technology upgrades should meet the department's and city's need for the next 20 years.
