Jogger Discovers Body In Vehicle in Linn County

The driver has been identified by authorities as Jeffery Wayne Whitney, 61, of Martelle.

Previous:

Linn County Sheriff's are investigating a dead body discovered in vehicle by a jogger east of Marion in Springville at around noon today.

They say the body is from a fatal single-vehicle accident.

Authorities aren't identifying the person, pending notification of family.

Linn County Sheriff's said the person was the lone occupant of a cargo van that went off the roadway on Taylor Road south of Highway 151. The vehicle went into a ditch and struck a tree where the jogger discovered it.

At 1214 hours, 08/03/13, Linn County Deputies, Linn County Sheriff’s Rescue, Iowa State Patrol, Springville Fire, and Area Ambulance were dispatched to a Fatality accident on Taylor Road approximately 0.75 miles south of Highway 151. A person jogging in the area found a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a tree containing one person. A cargo van was southbound on Taylor Road when it left the roadway entering the east ditch area and struck a large tree, coming to rest against the tree. The only occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of relatives. The accident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s office.
